Thank you for choosing Seat Belts Plus. We are proud to offer high quality aftermarket seat belts. Our seat belts are Made in the USA (with foreign & domestic components). Every seat belt we sell is tested and certified in the USA to meet or exceed all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Before Installing Your Seat Belts:

Once a seat belt has been installed, it cannot be returned. Safety is our #1 concern and we will never sell a used seat belt. Once a belt has been installed it is considered "used". Always measure for the correct fit before installation. If a belt, when fully adjusted, is too long to fit snuggly on a small occupant, do not install the belt. You need a seat belt with a shorter length.

How to Measure for Lap Seat Belts

Our lap belts are available in 48, 60, 74, 90, or 110 inch lengths. The length you need will be determined by a number of factors including the location of mounting points in your vehicle, height and position of seat, style of seat, and intended user.

  • To measure a lap belt, first adjust your current lap seat belt to a comfortable length and position. If your car currently does not have seat belts you can substitute a piece of rope where a seat belt would normally mount and use it as a reference for measurements.
  • Once you have found a comfortable length, measure the stationary (A) buckle side and the adjustable (B) tongue side of your seat belt.
  • Once you have your measurements, combine the lengths and compare against our seat belt measurements. Remember, seatbelts can always be adjusted down in length but cannot be adjusted longer.
  • Check if new seat belt buckle and clip will be long enough to be accessible at the sides of your seat. For example, if your current seat belt buckle sits 30 inches from the floor then a 60 inch seat belt with a 24 inch buckle will not be long enough for your application.
  • Adjustable lap belt end fittings should be mounted flat parallel to the floor or center tunnel. Make sure seat belt webbing will not rub against any interior components or seat frame.
  • If needed, we can always special order custom length seat belts for application that require off-set buckles.

How to Install Lap Seat Belts

Mounting a Lap Belt to Factory Installation Points

  • Always use factory seat belt mounting locations and hardware, if possible.
  • When using the manufacturer's threaded mounting location, threads must be fully engaged to obtain maximum strength of the anchorage.
  • If no original hardware is available, use 7/16" bolts with a minimum rating of grade 5.
  • All bolts must have either a lock-nut or lock washer or apply a thread locking compound for security.
  • Always mount the buckle side of the seat belt on the interior, or aisle, side.

Installing a Non-Retractable Lap Belt Where No Factory Installation Points Are Available

  1. Move the seat to the rearmost position.
  2. Mark the floor behind the seat to assure that the lap belt is pulling downward and rearward at approximately a 70 degree angle.
  3. Space the attachment points 15"-25" apart so that the lap belt forms a "U" shaped loop when in use. Never attach both end of the lap belt to the same anchor point.
  4. Carefully drill holes to avoid damaging the exhaust system & brake fuel lines. Always use a reinforcement plate (2.5" washer) underneath the floor. Examine & reinforce any weakened or rusted areas of the floor pan.
  5. Mounting hardware to the floor should always have metal-to-metal contact. Avoid carpet, plastic, or other materials between the fasteners and the floor.

Installing a Retractable Lap Belt Where No Factory Installation Points Are Available

    1. Mount the short side of the belt INBOARD, toward the center of the vehicle.
    2. Avoid rough or sharp edges when choosing a belt path.
    3. If the seat is adjustable, move to the rearmost position
    4. Mark the floor to mount down and behind the seat to assure that the lap belt is pulling downward and rearward at Approximately a 70 degree angle.
    5. Space the attachment points 15” to 25” apart so that the lap belt forms a β€œU” shaped loop when in use. Never attach both ends of the same lap belt to the same anchorage or attachment point.
    6. Carefully drill 1/2” holes being careful to avoid damaging exhaust systems, brake or fuel lines. Always use the reinforcement plates (2.5” flat washers) underneath the floor. Examine and reinforce any weakened area of the floor pan.
    7. Mounting hardware to the floor should always have metal-to-metal contact. You should avoid carpet, plastic or any other material between the fastener components and the floor which could tend to loosen over time.
    8. All bolts must have either a lock-nut, lock washer or apply a thread locking compound for security.
    9. Bolts used for mounting seatbelts should be a minimum size 7/16” diameter, Grade 5 product.
    10. Anchor points for belts must meet the strength load requirements of FMVSS 210. When replacing belts, always use the anchorages provided by the vehicle, or seat manufacturer.
    11. Do not connect both ends of this belt to the same, single mounting point. Mounted ends of the belt should form a β€œU” shape.

How to Measure for 3-Point Seat Belts

Our 3 Point Retractable lap & shoulder seat belts vary in lengths depending on buckle style so be sure to pre-measure if our seat belt will fit your application. The length you need will be determined by a number of factors including the location of mounting points, position of seat, style of seat, and intended user.

  • To measure for a 3 Point Retractable Lap & Shoulder Seat Belt, first extend your current seat belt to a comfortable length and position. If your car currently does not have seat belts you can substitute a piece of rope where a seat belt would normally mount and use it as a reference for measurements.
  • You will want to measure for 2 lengths: Length of (A) buckle side, and length of (B1 + B2 + B3) retractable lap & shoulder side.
  • Check if our seat belt buckle/sleeve side will be long enough to be accessible at the sides of your seat. For example, if your current seat belt buckle sits 18 inches from the floor then seat belt with a 12 inch plastic sleeve will not be long enough for your application without an extender bracket.
  • To get a measurement for retractable lap & shoulder side start at the bottom mounting bolt. Measure from (B1) floor mount to shoulder top mount, diagonally down (B2) across your chest to seat belt buckle, and (B3) back across your lap down to retractor mounting location. Make sure this combined length does not exceed the total length of our retractable seat belts.
  • Check seat belt webbing will not rub against any interior components or seat frame.

How to Install 3-Point Seat Belts

Mounting a 3-Point Seat Belt to Factory Installation Points

Our retractable seat belts use inertia locking retractors. Whenever there is a sudden tug on the webbing, the inertia clutch inside the housing spins out and locks the webbing reel from releasing any more webbing. Inertia locking retractors allow the user to move freely while wearing the seatbelt until the retractor senses a sharp pull. Inertia locking retractors are aftermarket products and work independently of any brake systems and O.E. wiring sensors.

  • The retractor mechanism must be mounted vertically in order for inertia locking centrifuge to function properly. Retractor must mount either on floor (mount upright with an "L" Bracket) or can be mounted on door pillar if mount already exist.
  • Do not mount retractor diagonally or horizontally. A tilting retractor will not function properly and can result in serious injury or death.
  • Do not mount retractor on ceiling, body quarter panels, inside seats, attached behind seat, or feeding through seats.

Adding a Shoulder Harness Where There is No Factory Mounting Point

  1.  Locate a suitable point in the roof, wall, or door post that is above & behind the shoulder point ofthe seated occupant.
  2. Drill the required holes & install the attachment hardware using washers and reinforcement plates (hardware kit sold separately).
  3. The upper harness fitting may be mounted to a suitable reinforced attachment point located in the "ACCETABLE RANGE” (seΠ΅ figure 6" below).
  4. Please note that this installation can be difficult and is not certifiable when mounting in a vehicle that was not manufactured for a 3 point seat belt. We recommend professional installation.

Caution When Installing Seat Belts

  • Never attach both ends of a lap belt to the same mounting point anchor.
  • Avoid rough or sharp edges when choosing the seat belt path.
  • Seat belts should never be attached directly to a seat, unless the vehicle manufacturer has indicated that the seat and seat mounting system has been specifically designed to withstand seat belt assembly loads.
  • If mounting to a suspension seat, the suspension seat must have floor tethers. Always adjust tethers according to the vehicle or seat manufacturer specifications.
